One-off pieces and small number series

The Long Journey, 2017. Gouache on paper. 570 x 760 mms. From the collection of Sally Hughes, Cragg Vale, West Yorkshire
Although the manner in which these drawings have been executed is traditional and the subjects recognisably depictive, I hope for the viewer to be left questioning whether all is ‘right’ with the image before them: what’s going on with the proportion of that group of figures? Does that composition work? Is something amiss with that landscape? Others are more direct but present an unsettling narrative. All contain concepts carried forward and further explored in later project-based work: space, place, memory and narrative.
